Hi, everyone. げんきですか. How are you going? Wish everyone will be happy. Today, we will start NIHONGO section 4-2. This section, we learn how to read the dates. First, you read above sentence. Ex. 1) What is the date today? Can you answer it in Japanese? I think it’s hard to say, because TIME also doesn’t have a rule for reading about date. So, you must memorize all. I’m Japanese and obviously, I can. But all foreigners can’t read them all. If you don’t need to take an examination in Japanese language, you don’t need to say all. If you are interested and have pocket of time, you say one by one.
First, about Month, it’s not so difficult. So, if you can say figures from 1 to 12, you can follow the reading. Just add, ” がつ ” GATU.

Then next, about Date. It’s quite terrible for you maybe.

In Japan, we say first, the year. followed by Month and date.
” 2022 年 6月 24日 ”, NI SEN NI JYU- NI NEN ROKU GATU NI JYU- YOTT KA “
When is your birthday ? Here in Japan , We say the ” Month/ date “. So you should say ” 〜月 〜日 “. Is it Okay?
” たんじょうび は いつ ですか? “ TANJYO-BI WA ITU DESUKA? When is your birthday ?
” 7月28日 です ” HITI GATU NI JYU- HATI NITI DESU It is July 28th.
Birthday : ” たんじょうび “ TANJYO-BI

By the way, we have special term in saying on encircled dates above. 14th, 19th, 20th, 24th.
14th: JYU-YOTT KA
19th: JYU-KU NITI
20th: HATUKA
24th: NIJYU- YOTTKA
Okay, we are done in today’s lesson. This one is applicable only for taking an examination of Japanese language. But it’s cool if you can say your birthday in our language. Just give it a try.
See yah!!
