Japan has four airports like in Narita, Haneda ,Chubu and Osaka. For first time visitors, I recommend Narita or Haneda as they are near to the capital city, Tokyo. From there, you can easily get an access to your destinations and there are lots of scheduled flights so you can choose anytime and can save cost. The places in Japan have its own authenticity.
If you have an experienced of going here for some times, Chubu is better as well as Osaka. If your targets are the local foods and shopping , Osaka area is a better choice.
You can catch the traditional foods and cheapest stuff there. About Chubu area, this one is near TOYOTA head office, so when you are an avid fan of automobiles and loves to drive, this area is better for you.
