I will share some interesting information about TRANSPORTATION in Japan.
It can’t be denied that when it comes to transportation, Japan is known to be modernized and innovative compared to other countries. This is our pride. After reading the articles, it will help you decide for your travel convenience.Precondition, you stay in near Tokyo area.
For far destination and long drive, you can have the options below:
- Airplain
- Shinkansen (bullet train)
- Long distance bus
- Ferry
- Airplane
Total airports, there are 97 locations in Japan. So, you can go anywhere by airplane. About an airplane, surely in my opinion, if you want to go except circle area, better you should use an airplane from Tokyo realistically.

2. Shinkansen (Bullet train)
Shinkansen in Japan marked as the most popular transportation around the world, With maximum speed of 320 km/hr. You will never notice that you reached to your destination in a faster way.
In my opinion, when you are about to go around the blue portions in the photo, don’t hesitate to use the shinkansen. It is fully airconditioned with wi-fi and some special trips include meals. It is like you are riding in an airplane. You don’t get bored during the trip because of the spectacular views seen while it passes to different prefectures. Suits your budget and shorten the period of travel time. You can book your ticket and choose the travel time.
Did you know that, only takes about an hour and 40 minutes from Tokyo to Nagoya? Imagine the velocity of Shinkansen compared to other means of transportation.

If you want to save your budget for long distance trip I recommend the bus. There are many buses at some stations in Tokyo. The buses also served and operate in same locations as the shinkansen but price wise, it is half cheaper than the latter. They serve some variations seat, departure time, glade, with wi-fi etc. This is desirable for young once. Instead of stopping over and get a hotel accommodation, we prefer a night-time trip in the bus, because we can spend more time to relax and sleep during long travels. There are separate spaces for male and female for privacy purposes.
So, if you want to go to far places but want to save travel cost, you should consider first.

Around 7hr 30min from Tokyo to Nagoya.

If you have sufficient time and you want slow travel in here, ferry is a good choice for your transfer, especially in going to Hokkaido and you are not in a hurry.
Around 18hr from Oarai to Tomakomai by ferry.

There are some Ferries here also.
